About the Presenter: Karen Vandino MSW, LPCC, OCPSII

Karen is an education and social services professional with over 30 years’ experience in professional consulting and social work; most recently focused on nationally recognized motivational speaking.

About the Workshop:

It is estimated that in the United States there are over 1,000,000 drinkers.  One tenth of those who drink will become alcoholic.  With each of these people’s drinking effecting at least four other people, it becomes clear that the children we work with have probably been exposed to the effects of drinking.  These very children are who we are referring to when we say “high risk youth”.  Many will use alcohol and other drugs themselves, drop out of school, be involved in delinquent behavior or become victims of abuse.

Objectives:

To learn the signs and symptoms of use, abuse and dependency; Family Dynamics; and what to do when you encounter abuse.

  • Participants will recognize the signs of use.
  • Participants will understand the phases of addiction.
  • Participants will learn the effects addiction has on the family.
  • Participants will learn suggestions for effectively dealing with abuse.
