Clinical Supervision Brochure

Competency Based Clinical Supervision

About the Workshop:

  • Many styles of clinical supervision currently exist in the professional community. In order to maximize effectiveness, supervisors must have a clear conceptualization of the particular methods they choose to employ.  Competency based supervision not only provides a means of developing skills in the supervisee, but also ensures the integrity of clinical services provided to the client.

Objectives:

  • Attendees will understand the requirements of the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage & Family Therapist Board for clinical supervision
  • Attendees will be able to identify basic competencies for each professional licensee.
  • Attendees will be introduced to strategies for developing these competencies through supervision.

3 Credit Hours will be awarded toward re-licensure

Motivational Interviewing: Preparing Clients for Change

This Training will earn 5.5 Continuing Ed hours.

Counselors and social workers are frequently challenged by parents’ lack of motivation to change negative behaviors, which are causing distress in a client’s family. This is particularly true in the case of caregivers who are struggling with substance use disorders.  Motivational Interviewing is an evidence based counseling style which adopts a brief intervention format, using critical elements that serve as catalysts for motivation and change. MI addresses how to strengthen client intrinsic motivation to change and reduce ambivalence. This class serves as an introduction to MI and gives trainees the basic tools necessary to incorporate this intervention into their practice.
