About the Presenter:

Dr. Yvonne Peay

Psychotherapist with a scope of practice in the area of alcohol and drug addiction and play therapy. Areas of competency are diagnosis and treatment of mental and emotional disorders; group, individual and family counseling to achieve personal and family development and adjustment; consultation; mental health education; crisis intervention; trauma (domestic violence and rape); multicultural and multiethnic; women; sexual orientation, and care management of the case(s), acting as a liaison with other professionals (educators, area psychiatric facilities, partial hospitalization programs,and family court) to provide a multidisciplinary approach to coordinate care.

About the Workshop:

The workshop will begin by discussing the family system as a whole, who is “the family” and what are common systems within a family. The workshop will progress to discuss how Dr. Murry Bowen began to identify how family systems can become disjointed and blurred as children begin to take on roles, and will discuss roles and rules. Finally, you will learn practical approaches to help through Gestalt Family Therapy approaches, strategies and techniques.

  • Learners will identify Bowen’s family systems theory of family structure, roles and rules
  • Learners will apply Gestalt Family Therapy approaches to case study information
