About the Presenter:

Annie Garner, Ph.D., is a 3rd year post-doctoral fellow at the Center for ADHD at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She has specialized training in evidence-based assessment and treatment of ADHD in preschoolers (Parent-Child Interaction Therapy), school-aged children (Summer Treatment Program and parent training) and adolescents (organizational skills training and parent-teen contracting). In addition, Dr. Garner’s research focuses on identifying and remediating driving impairments among adolescents with ADHD.

 

About the Workshop:

This workshop is intended for practitioners working with children suspected of having ADHD. The neurobiology of ADHD and its relevance to assessment and management will be discussed.  Participants will learn evidence-based assessment procedures, including how to rule out other explanations for “ADHD” symptoms. Attendees will learn the three components of an evidence-based, multimodal approach to managing ADHD, along with tips for implementing it in an outpatient setting, including practice developing treatment plans and Daily Report Cards. 

 

Objectives:

1.   Explain Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder as a neurobehavioral condition.

2.   Describe components of evidence-based assessment for ADHD and outline how to conduct such an evaluation.

3.   Discuss differential diagnosis in the assessment of ADHD: Distinguishing ADHD symptoms from other emotional and behavioral problems.

4.   Describe components of an evidence-based approach to managing ADHD (a.k.a., multimodal treatment) and provide tips for its implementation in an outpatient setting.
